International Metal Industry Technology Exhibition (KOREA METAL WEEK 2011) was held on 28th, Sep to 1st Oct, 2011 in Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) organized by Korea Trade Fairs Ltd. and Korea Fastener Industry Association. KMW integrating all metal production technologies, comprises five well established events namely Tube•Pipe & Cable, Faster & Wire, Machine parts & Mold Manufacturing, Foundry•Forging & Furnace, and Die casting under the same canopy with exhibiting space of 108,049 square meters.

China Fastener Info, as the most popular media in China, attended the show again, sent out China Fastener Directory 2011 (CFD 2011) and invitation letters of the 6th Fastener Trade Show and recommended Chinese suppliers to purchasers.

Started in 1989 KOREA METAL WEEK is held biannually with exhibiting products including metal, metallurgy, general equipment and machinery. KOREA METAL WEEK 2011 attracted 120 exhibitors from all over the world such as Italy, USA, Switzerland, Japan, Germany, UAE, Egypt, UK, Bahrain, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Spain, Malaysia, Thailand and so on. Most of the exhibitors were local companies. There were 34 exhibitors coming from China mainland namely Hifasters Industrial, Haiyan Sanhuan Fasteners, Haiyan Huilian General Fitting, Ningbo Xinxing Fasteners Manufacture, Shanghai Jinyang, Shanghai BSC Industry, etc. Besides, local visitors took up a large proportion.

To meet the market need, Korea’s fastener companies constantly upgrade their competitive products recently. It was estimated that there were 408 companies in Korea in 2010 with total output of 810,000 tons and sales of $2.7 billion dollars, which should be attributed to the increase of Korea’s vehicle production.

Imports of Korea’s fasteners reached 106, 000 tons with import value of $380 million dollars, an increase of 30.6% over $290 million dollars in 2009. China, America, Japan and Taiwan were the main exporters with value of $130 million dollars, $89 million dollars, $33 million dollars, and $17 million dollars respectively. China took up 35.9% of the total amount, becoming the biggest exporter.

As to exports, Korea’s fastener exports rose 32.1% to $32 million dollars from $24 million dollars in 2009. The main importers were USA (37%), China mainland (15%), Japan(9%), Canada(4%), and Philippines(3%). From the statistics above, we can see that Korea’s fastener industry experienced a trade deficit of 60 million dollars in 2010.

Although Korea’s economy was greatly affected by Japan’s earthquake, Europe’s debt crisis and American economic recession, which caused the chaos of raw materials in the very beginning of 2011, fastener demand in Korea will not decrease with the development of Korea’s manufacturing.

China Fastener Info’s stand was crowded with many exhibitors and visitors who came for CFD magazines and inquired about quality Chinese fastener suppliers during the exhibition. When we were recommending some quality suppliers to them we were inviting them to the 6th Fastener Trade Show scheduled for Nov. 11-12, 2011 at Guangzhou Poly World Trade Expo Center, Guangzhou, China, which is the best platform to find suitable Chinese suppliers.
